I read a lot of helpful info on this website, but still have some questions unanswered.
I am about to start a PGCE Secondary Computer Science course from Sept 2013. At the moment I work at a nursery and I've found out that I enjoy this immensely! I support an autistic child and would like to specialise further into it. I also have some experience as a TA (+EAL) in Secondary.
My questions are:
I have completed my first year of Primary Education with QTS but have had some difficulties in the process. It pains me to say I have been throroughly bullied at the institute I currently study at and the faculty have done nothing about it. The factors that have lead me to the decision to want to transfer have made me ill, depressed, stressed and put me in hospital.
I am in the process of completing my NQT teaching year (which will be complete by summer 2013) and have just discovered that I am 2 months pregnant and due in October.
My permanent contract for next year was authorised last week and I'm just a little nervous that news of my pregnancy may effect the schools decision.
Can the school retract my contract once I tell them I'm expecting?
I start my PGCE in September, should I join a union? Which one is best? How do I go about it?

I am at placement in a mixed Rec/Yr1 class and am finding it really difficult. In my previous placements I have been in reception classes and have got on just fine.
