Hi I'm a secondary English PGCE student. I have an assignment on the changing nature of english teaching and the scope of english teaching. Could anyone point me in the right direction of any good books, research, journal or articles on the topic? I'm planning on producing a sort of 'time-line' with key changes plotted on starting from the 1900's. I'm finding it really difficult to find relevant material. Please can anyone help?

Our training and induction expert James Williams was having some trouble posting you a reply so I'm posting this reply on his behalf:

I'm not an English specialist, but you could try looking on the NATE (National Association for the teaching of English) website. If you are a member they have a magazine (Classroom) and a journal (English in Education) which may have articles (your uni may subscribe to this so check your library).

Another possible source of articles (free) would be education-line hosted by Leeds University which can be found here: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/educol/BEID.html

ERIC is the largest online worldwide education resource but as it is worldwide you need to be specific in your searches to generate UK results. http://www.eric.ed.gov/ It is hosted in the USA

Hope this helps, but I would start with NATE
