My Russian wife would like to get UK QTS. She speaks fluent English and is really interested in teaching as a career. Would her degree status be recognised in the UK and what would her course options be?

All teacher training providers will recognise bona fide degrees from overseas. As it happens I have a Russian graduate on my science cohort this year. There is an organisation - UKNARIC (http://www.naric.org.uk/) which can provide a statement of comparability for your wife's degree showing how it compares to a UK degree. This is accepted by providers as proof of equivalence. She will also need to have qualifications in maths and english that are considered equivalent to GCSE grade A*-C. If her English and Maths qualifications do not meet the standards required for entry to teacher training then providers will accept an English and/or maths equivalency test. These tests are sometimes set by providers, but if you contact the provider you are interested in they can advise on where the tests can be taken if necessary. James
