Need some help and advice! I am currently enrolled on a PGCE in primary education. I am seriously doubting whether I want to be a teacher and would like to know my options. If I drop my QTS but still came out with a certificate for completing the PGCE course, how would that look to potential employers? What sorts of jobs could i apply for without QTS? please help!!!!!!!

With a PGCE, but no QTS, your work options as a teacher are limited (independent schools, free schools and academies) but you can use your knowledge as a TA or working in an education environment e.g. in museums, for trusts, in libraries etc. Are you sure your provider will allow you to drop QTS and still complete the PGCE? Many link the two and you cannot get one without the other. The provider may also stop any remaining bursary payments (if you are in receipt of a bursary) as this is linked to courses leading to QTS and opting out would mean that you no longer qualify for a bursary. If you gain QTS you do not have to go into teaching and you do not have to complete induction if you plan on never teaching. Do check out the options thoroughly before you decide anything. The Sage
