I qualified in 1998 from the University of Cape Town with an honours in Drama in Education and taught for 6 years very successfully in Private Schools in Zimbabwe and Botswana before moving into my own business. My children have reached an age where they are ready to move to the UK(I have a British passport) but even though I have a great CV, it appears that either the 7 years out of teaching are working against me or the fact that I am applying from outside the country is a problem. I have applied for numerous jobs on your site but have not even had a polite refusal. In those 7 years I have set up, run and sold two companies, led teams of up to 40 employees but yet it appears those skills are working against me? How do I get back into teaching?

As an overseas qualified teacher you would have to gain qualified teacher staus for the UK. This can be done through the graduate teacher programme. The Teaching Agency (https://www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/apply-for-teacher-training/sign-up.aspx)has a helpline and they can tell you about possible routes and if there are courses for overseas teachers. Also do look at the forums on the main TES website related to jobs, Theogriff is a very experienced head who gives fantastic advice about CVs, letters etc. (http://community.tes.co.uk/forums/77.aspx) The Sage
