I am an NQT from Ireland. As the marking system is different over here could anyone tell me how to get my head aroud this. How do you know if they have reached a 3 , 4 or 5 grade level? for ks3 and ks4? where do I find the marking schemes? It is probably a stupid question and there are resources on the net somewhere to help. I just can't find them, or am unsure if they are the correct ones. Help!

To be honest I would not worry too much about this. The current revision of the national curriculum will mean that levels are being scrapped. That said, you do need to level work this September and the best way of knowing about how to do this would be to ask for level examples from the school and when you start levelling shadow another experienced teacher and joint level work, this is how the training is normally completed in teacher training - working alongside an experienced colleague and looking at past examples. But levels now have a very limited life in schools. The Sage
