I have a young daughter and am about to start a PGCE. I am hoping to work part time when I become a teacher until my daughter goes to school. I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to do the NQT year over two years part time?

Yes you can do it part time and it is pro-rata.
You need to be aware that the post needs to be a teaching post and not a cover supervisor type post or daily cover. Your post must be a teaching one.
Hi
I finished my PGCE in July 2007, whilst being pregnant with my daughter.
Since having had my daughter I applied for fulltime teaching posts as part time ones are few and far between in Cumbria. I asked for part time or job share as my daughter is 21 months old. I was invited for the interview, and luckily the school liked me.
I am now in negotiation with a part- time timetable to do my nqt year over two years. I start this September. You have to make sure that any work that you undertake equates to for full terms of a school. This is what counts as your nqt year.
Hope this helps
Hi Saima
I am currently coming towards the end of my SCITT course in primary. I will be 7 months pregnant when i finish in July. I just wondered if i could pick your brains as im really feeling unsure of the future in terms of finding a job. The baby wasnt planned but we are very happy and looking forward to the babys arrival. Im becoming increasingly concerned about applying for jobs when the time comes. At the moment im thinking i will apply for sept 2013 as by that point my baby will be one. How long did you have off before you started your NQT year? Also how did you go about applying for part time NQT? i cant help but feel it will go against me the fact i have a child. I know im probably being silly but with everyone on my course securing jobs and applying for september i cant help but feel i am going to really struggle to get a job after a year off. Any advice would be grand!
Lilly.
